Join us for our recurring artistic advocacy Zoom call in which we make artistic letters in our own cozy spaces while snacking and listening to music and conversation about how to pressure decision makers from home!
How it works:
Register here for the recurring monthly Zoom letter-writing party that happens, for now, every 4th Thursday and make when you're able to - show up as you are! Canary Calls for Community Compassion seek to make sure advocacy and activism are artistic and accessible to all! Senators and mayors need to hear from the people most impacted by issues, not just billionaire oil and war profiteer lobbyists! Anyone can join these calls and write a letter or make a call to your legislator - you don't have to be an expert! - but if you want to just learn, you can mute your video and audio and just listen in while cooking or changing diapers or getting IV chemo or half-watching The Great British Bake-off! We get it. Life under late stage capitalism makes it really hard to have energy to stay "informed" let alone gather the time and courage to take action on issues that matter to you. That's why we want to make it super easy and fun to get together virtually with like-hearted community members and make art from the heart to touch legislators' and decision-makers' hearts!
This is a recurring project under the larger umbrella of "The Canary Collective Artist Gatherings" work. The Canary Collective Artist Gatherings (a community partner organization with Seattle Parks Foundation) seek to facilitate more accessible gatherings and events in which marginalized artists and allies can connect with one another and also creatively share stories through art with the wider community and decision-makers who affect policy. We believe sustainable positive change amongst living beings on this planet comes from letting all kinds of voices’ diverse perspectives air out, offered as songs, dances, paintings, skits, and tunes from the heart - especially those of sensitive and vulnerable “canaries in the coal mine.”
